My blueberries in the raised beds along the south fence went from pale and limp to deep green in under two weeks. I gave them a confirmed iron spray and they turned around fast. Before that they had sat yellow for weeks, leaves washed out between dark veins, new growth barely moving. The best plants for foliar feeding are the ones already short on a specific micronutrient. That pattern holds across the garden. The crops that respond to foliar feeding are not a fixed list of species. They are plants caught in a real micronutrient shortage. And the trigger is often the soil, not the plant itself. So the same crop can thrive in one bed and struggle two rows over, just because of what is going on underground.
Three soil conditions cause most of the trouble you will see. High soil pH locks up iron and manganese, so your roots cannot pull them in even when the nutrient sits right there. Cool spring soils slow uptake until the ground warms up. Excess moisture does the same thing in heavy, soggy beds. Your plant looks hungry, but the real problem is access, not supply. That is why a quick spray can fix the leaf while you sort out the deeper cause in the soil.
The spray works because the leaf takes in the nutrient straight away. A soil correction might take a full season to show. The leaf clears in days. But your crop has to actually be short on something for this to matter. Spray a well-fed plant and you just wet the leaves.

The same nutrient can hit very different plants, so the shortage matters far more than the species you grow.
Boron is its own case. Run low and your apples never fill out, while broccoli and cauliflower form hollow stems and a poor head. A little boron spray fixes set, but the margin is tight. Too much boron turns toxic, so this is one you confirm before you ever mix a tank. Guesswork here costs you the crop.
Before you spray any crop, confirm the shortage first. A leaf tissue test gives you the surest read on what the plant lacks. A soil test then tells you why the nutrient went missing in the first place. Skip both and you are only guessing, and yellow leaves alone will not tell you enough. Drought, root damage, and even too much water all look about the same on the leaf.
Among foliar feeding vegetables, spinach earns a top spot because it can run short on both zinc and iron at the same time. That makes it quick to read and quick to help once you know which nutrient is missing. Match the symptom to a real, tested shortage, then spray. A plant with balanced nutrition gains almost nothing from the bottle. But a confirmed shortage like my blueberries clears in days and stays fixed.
